Fabulous Win For More Than Ready’s Son

A fourth to eventual Group 2 Queensland Guineas winner Tsaritsa two starts back before a pleasing second last time out to So Willie at Rosehill, three-year-old More Than Ready gelding More Than Fabulous stepped up to the 1900m at Canterbury on Wednesday in the Schweppes Handicap and was simply too powerful.

Raced by South Africa’s largest owners Markus and Ingrid Jooste, More Than Fabulous went forward from a wide gate, and going past the post on the first occasion found himself in fourth position, although travelling wide.

As the tempo started to slacken a little, jockey Blake Shinn allowed the gelding to travel forward where he found himself in third position, with the leader Sea Sharp surging many lengths clear, ensuring a solid tempo was on.

Just before the home turn when the second placed Triple Snitz came off the rail to start to make his run around the leader, Shinn and More Than Fabulous snuck along the inside rail to find themselves in a challenge position.

Making the decision to pull the gelding off the rail and travel around the leading duo, Shinn was extremely confident as he rode hands and heels passing the 200m line before giving More Than Fabulous a few taps with the whip where he pinned his ears back and charged to the line.

Recording an exciting two and a quarter length victory, the win really showed that he appreciated the step up to the 1900m.

Also having a good record at the track, More Than Fabulous took his overall record to 13 top three performances from 23 starts.

Special congratulations to owners Markus and Ingrid Jooste on the victory and for also showing their continued support in the David Payne Racing stable.
