Victory Fit For A Queen

Jumping from the outside gate of seven at Goulburn on Saturday, three-year-old Congrats filly Queen’s Crown appeared to appreciate the drop back in class to produce an impressive winning performance to take out the opening race of the day, the Semco Equipment Sales 3YO Maiden Plate over 1200m.

Ridden by apprentice Brock Ryan, Queen’s Crown settled at the tail of the field over the 1200m, having dropped back from her start prior over 1600m.

With a good tempo set up by the leading duo of Broadbeach Girl and Dragon’s Magic, Ryan asked his filly to start her run with about 800m to run and she started to make up ground around the field.

As the field thundered into the home turn, Queen’s Crown still found herself many lengths off the leaders, and with four runners in front of her, she started to make her run down the outside.

As leader Broadbeach Girl skipped clear and appeared as if she would be hard to run down, Ryan urged the filly along and she continued to make up many lengths.

Surging to the line, Queen’s Crown broker her maiden by three-parts of a length from Gerald Ryan’s Nightlife with Broadbeach Girl holding on for third.

Raced by Mr G W Aldridge, Mrs S G Aldridge, D & M Payne Racing, Neasham Hayes, Mr W C Alchin and Mrs P J Alchin, the filly is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Otravez, who is herself a half-sister to Listen Here, the dam of Group 1 winner Shooting To Win and Group 2 winner Deep Field.
