Back To Back Victories Form Be Like Dad

Four-year-old Lope De Vega gelding Be Like Dad continued his winning ways on Saturday, March 25, adding victory in the final race of the day, the 1400m of the Logistics Handicap.

Having shown at his prior start a liking for the wet track, winning over 1300m at Warwick Farm, the Kathy O’Hara ridden gelding once again appeared to have his flippers and snorkel on as he achieved victory over Roaring To Win, with a narrow margin back to Voilier in third.

Away quickly from the outside barrier in a field of 11, Kathy O’Hara allowed Be Like Dad to cross the field where she sat outside the leader Voilier, approximately a half a length astern.

As the leader showed signs of being ridden along before the home turn, O’Hara asked Be Like Dad for an effort and the two leaders fought down the entire Randwick straight.

Just as Be Like Dad got his head in front, charging from the back was Roaring To Win to make the finish interesting, but David Payne’s runner had enough in hand to take back to back wins.

Congratulations to owners; Mr G W Aldridge, Mrs S G Aldridge, Maxibeam Racing, and Neasham Hayes on the victory.

Purchased for just $34,000 from the Magic Millions yearling sale, David Payne had been so impressed with the family and work ethic of Be Like Dad, he went back and purchased the year younger full-sister as well as the Americain half-brother earlier this year from the Inglis Premier yearling sale.

The year younger sister raced as French Fern, and was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Reisling at her third start at two-year-old and will now be offered at the upcoming Inglis Chairman’s Sale – Elite Breeding Prospects on April 7.
