Payne Purchases Four At Magic Millions

After the first four days of selling at the 207 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the David Payne Racing Stable has secured four impressive yearlings.

Mike and Kate Fleming’s Bhima Thoroughbreds have offered some outstanding yearlings in the past, including our Group 1 performer Chimboraa and we were excited to purchase Lot 111: Declaration Of War x Indy Cash colt for just $40,000.

From the first crop of Coolmore’s dual Group 1-winning son of Champion Sire War Front, this bay colt is the third foal out of the unraced AP Indy mare Indy Cash.

Next up it was Arrowfield Stud’s Lot 214: All American x Merlene De Lago colt that took the attention of David.

Knocked down for $180,000, the colt is out of the Group 2-winning, Group 1 placed Australian bred, but South African raced Merlene De Lago, who is herself a daughter of Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Merlene. With two foals to race, Merlene De Lago’s best to the track was the ill-fated Burnstone, an impressive winner at Listed level at his only ever start.

With further Group 1 performers Dear Demi, Miss Pennymoney and last season’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper winner Capitalist in the pedigree, it as no surprise to see this colt snapped so up quickly by clients.

During the second day of selling, David went to $120,000 to take home Lot 383: All Too Hard x Rock Me Baby colt from the draft of Vinery Stud.

Knowing this pedigree all too well, training the dam to Group 2 success in the Light Fingers Stakes as well as also training her first two foals to race; Baby Shoes and Sweet Chestnut, David was pleased to purchase the colt by exciting young sire All Too Hard.

The final purchase of the sale so far was from the draft of Queensland’s Fig Tree Thoroughbreds.

Consigned as Lot 739, the brown or black filly is by Emirates Park‘s Dream Ahead, out of the Anabaa mare Courtyard Circle.

A half-sister to the stakes-placed Bold Circle, who Payne trains after purchasing it from this very sale a few years back, the filly contains plenty of residual value being from the black type family of Dynamic Love, Key Bar Nights, Barbed and Princess Margaret.

With Book 2 of the 2017 Magic Millions yearling sale commencing on Sunday, January 15, Payne Racing are still on the lookout for further yearlings for the stable, so please stay tuned for some possible purchases.
