The Mighty Fed - First Australian Winner For All Too Hard

Responsible for providing first season sire Delago Deluxe with his first two-year-old winner recently for Markus and Ingrid Jooste, the David Payne Stable were at it again, this time ensuring Vinery Stud’s All Too Hard recorded his first Australian winner as The Mighty Fed charged away for the Jooste’s.

Purchased from the draft of Segenhoe Stud at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, The Mighty Fed was having just his second start after a debut fourth behind Gerald Ryan’s smart colt Condor Heroes.

Stepping up to 1200m at his second start, contesting the I Am Invincible @ Yarraman Park Handicap at Warwick Farm, jockey Blake Shinn jumped the gelding away from gate three, and although not showing a huge amount of early pace, The Mighty Fed settled with two behind him, albeit only a few lengths from the leader.

As the final bend was reached, Shinn had managed to traveled along towards the inside to be sitting in third and be a real threat to the leader Mr Grumpy, who appeared to have had enough.

Coming off the back of Mr Grumpy and pushing Pierata out of the way, The Mighty Fed relished the wet track conditions in the run to the line, pulling away from the field before the 200m mark to win by two lengths.

"He showed us early that he was going to be a good horse," Payne said.

"His last start he missed the break on a heavy (10) so he never really got into the race but I said to Blake today he had improved a lot this horse.

"I think he had a bit of stage fright first-up – babies often do it – but since then he's come on in leaps and bounds.

"I might put him in the paddock now because I think he'll be a nice horse later on."

Interestingly the second horse Furlana was by Pierro, All Too Hard’s old racetreack sparing mate!
