Gosford Victory For Crimson Halo

Sebring gelding Crimson Halo, who was purchased from the draft of Widden Stud at the Magic Millions yearling sale was successful over 2100m on Thursday at Gosford, taking his record nine top three placed performances from just 20 starts.

Disappointing at the start prior over 2200m on the Beaumont track at Newcastle, trainer David Payne dropped the gelding back in trip and with a better run in transit, he was able to take the prize.

With the pace only moderate throughout, jockey Tye Angland was able to settle with only a few behind him in the eight horse field.

Deciding that there was an opportunity to capitalise on the slow speed, Angland was the first to make his move, travelling up three wide to take on the leading division and when the home turn was reached, Crimson Halo was in front and all he had to do was fight off any challengers.

Staying on strongly, Angland urged Crimson Halo along with a few reminders, and the gelding held off the second placed Arrows Destiny comfortably to record a length and a quarter win.

Congratulations to the winning connections; Summertime Thoroughbreds, Mr W M Shelton, Mr D R Cordina, Morley Racing, Hilwhey, Miss R A Shelton, Miss G A Shelton, Miss A R Shelton, Mrs E M Morley and Mr D W W Morley.
