Jemss Targets Championship Day Two

After a closing third in the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes behind Godolphin’s Thermosphere, talented juvenile filly Jemss looks set to continue her fine form come this Saturday when she lines up for David Payne Racing in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Purchased from the draft of Willow Park Stud for $60,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale (pictured below), the stakes placed filly by Group 1 Golden Rose winner Exosphere, has drawn barrier 5 in the field of 14 for Saturday’s $500,000 two-year-old contest.

Out of the More Than Ready mare Carbon Tax, from the family of Group 1 winners Redding and Nothin’ Leica Dane, Jemms has always been held positively by the stable.

“She seems to have a bit of quality about her. I always fancied her as a lovely filly but she wasn't ready early,’’ stated Payne.

Tackling a strong field which includes Golden Slipper runner up and Magic Millions winner Away Game, leading jockey Glynn Schofield will continue his association with the Mrs S E Shelton, Mrs S G Aldridge, Mrs E M Morley, Ms J Cutting, Mrs M Payne, GA Rezo, Mrs R A Drabyna and Miss A R Shelton-raced filly.
