Consistent Costello Salutes On Kensington Track.

Despite lumped with 61.5kg’s, the consistent Costello continued his solid form to take out the Press Statement At Vinery Handicap over 1800m on the Kensington track on Wednesday.

Starting the second favourite behind Godolphin’s Night Witches off the back of a recent barrier trial win, Costello was ridden by in form jockey Glen Boss who had the 4yo son of Melbourne Cup hero Americain settled in second position after eventual runner-up Welsh Legend took the lead away from him.

As Night Witches began to make a run rounding the home turn, and looking like she was going to play her part in the finish, both Welsh Legend and Costello began to kick strongly, with David Payne’s superior stayer reeling in the leader before taking the prize, his fourth career win for Aston Bloodstock, Mrs R J Mula, Luskin Park Stud Racing, Morley Racing, Mrs E M Morley, Mr D W W Morley and Mr P S Farrugia.

With 11 top three efforts from just 20 starts, the Inglis Premier purchase from the Swettenham Stud's draft has highlighted his liking for the 1800m with three of his four wins coming over that trip.
