Premier Purchases For David Payne Racing

Striking early on the first day of selling, David Payne Racing purchased Lot 13, a colt from the first crop of Melbourne Cup hero Americain from a family known all too well to the stable.

The colt is a half-brother to the Group 2 Reisling Stakes winner French Fern and Be Like Dad, all out of the Listed Mornington Hareeba Stakes winner La Famelia.

From the family of Group 1 winners Schillaci and Russeting, as well as the consistent Group 3 winner Voodoo Lad, the colt was purchased from the draft of leading Victorian property Swettenham Stud for $40,000.

Snapped up quickly by stable clients, another yearling purchased at the sale who has some viability is Lot 247.

By Shamardal's Group 1-winning son Lope De Vega, interestingly the sire of French Fern and Be Like Dad, the bay colt is out of the winning Carnegie mare Skibo Castle, herself a half-sister to the Group 3-winning, Group 1 placed Murtajill, as well as stakes winners Sunset Run and Bradbury’s Luck.

From the family of Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes winner Juste Momente and the Golden Slipper-winning, Champion 2YO Vancouver, the $50,000 yearling purchase is a half-brother to the recent Hawkesbury winner Garbhan and Lismore winner Geileis.

With Session 1 ending after three days of selling, David was still searching for another and was happy to purchase Lot 666, also from the Swettenham Stud draft during Session 2.

By Master Of Design, a son of Redoute’s Choice that David trained to victory in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes, the bay colt is the third foal of the Tale Of The Cat mare Tale Of Harmony, herself a daughter of the tough, Listed-winning Last Tycoon mare Harmonia.

Knocked down for $50,000, the colt comes from an exciting black type family which includes March Hare and Imposera.
